Associate Editor, MRI E-Bulletin
ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION
Migrants Rights International (MRI) is a non-governmental organization and global alliance of migrant associations and migrant rights, human rights, labor, religious, and other organizations which operate at the local, national, regional or international levels. Its mission is to advocate for the respect, protection and fulfillment of the full range of human rights of migrants around the world and to foster unity and the inclusion of migrant voices at all levels of policy making. Its membership currently brings together over 500 organizations in Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, and the United States
MRI defends and promotes the recognition and respect for the rights of all migrants and members of their families. It has consultative status with the UN Economic and Social Council, and works in diverse international fora including the UN system as well as other inter-governmental negotiations. It supports migrants’ and migrants’ rights organizations in their work and promotes their participation in international policy debates.
DESCRIPTION OF MRI E-BULLETIN
The MRI E-Bulletin is a monthly information bulletin, produced in English, Spanish, and French, that provides news and updates about situations affecting migrants' rights across the globe, and serves as a vehicle through which MRI members and other groups can share information. It is an important space for organizations to learn more about each other and to build international solidarity in the movement to support migrants' rights.
The MRI E-Bulletin has 6 sections: Updates from Across the Globe, Civil Society Statements, Appeals to Action, Events, New Publications and Films, Other Announcements, and Opinions and Analysis.
The E-Bulletin is sent electronically to over 1100 people every month, including civil society groups, activists, researchers, academics, and government and UN officials.

JOB DESCRIPTION
We are currently seeking one or two Associate Editors for the MRI E-Bulletin. The Associate Editor(s) will work under the supervision of the E-Bulletin Editor, to take responsibility for the overall coordination of research, writing, and distribution of the E-Bulletin.
The Associate Editor(s) responsibilities may include:
Working with Regional Researchers to guide them on: research, identification of news items, selection of items
- Conducting research and writing for the E-Bulletin on areas that are not completed by Regional Researchers (especially on international news, events and announcements)
- Coordinate translations of the Bulletin
- Checking items and text for accuracy, and overseeing archives of reference materials
- Overall editing of E-Bulletin, in Spanish, English and French, to oversee content selection, writing styles, and analysis
- Coordinate distribution of the Bulletin: formatting, preparation for electronic distribution (in Outlook), and distribution to several electronic lists
Specific assignments will be agreed upon discussion.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
* Ability to read English, French, Spanish
* Ability to write fluently in one or more of the following languages: English, French, Spanish
* Basic computer skills and ability to use Microsoft Word, Outlook, internet, and email
* Strong analytical, research and writing skills
* Ability to work in a team, and supervise volunteers
PREFERRED SKILLS
* Prior experience in research and writing, especially for a periodical
* Prior experience supervising volunteers, researchers, and writers
* Commitment to social justice and migrants’ rights and social justice.
* Knowledge of migrants’ rights, human rights, social movements, and the United Nations system
* Ability to edit writing in English, French Spanish
* Ability to translate between two or all of the following languages: English, French, and Spanish
LOCATION :
Remotely by internet and phone
COMPENSATION
No salary. This is a voluntary position.
MINIMUM COMMITMENT REQUIRED
Minimum commitment of 3 months. Six months preferred.
Work hours vary according to speed, but normally range from 5 to 10 hours a week.
