Regional Researchers, MRI E-Bulletin
ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION
Migrants Rights International (MRI) is a non-governmental organization and global alliance of migrant associations and migrant rights, human rights, labor, religious, and other organizations which operate at the local, national, regional or international levels. Its mission is to advocate for the respect, protection and fulfillment of the full range of human rights of migrants around the world and to foster unity and the inclusion of migrant voices at all levels of policy making. Its membership currently brings together over 500 organizations in Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, and the United States
MRI defends and promotes the recognition and respect for the rights of all migrants and members of their families. It has consultative status with the UN Economic and Social Council, and works in diverse international fora including the UN system as well as other inter-governmental negotiations. It supports migrants’ and migrants’ rights organizations in their work and promotes their participation in international policy debates.
DESCRIPTION OF MRI E-BULLETIN
The MRI E-Bulletin is a monthly information bulletin, produced in English, Spanish, and French; that provides news and updates about situations affecting migrants' rights across the globe, and serves as a vehicle through which MRI members and other groups can share information. It is an important space for organizations to learn more about each other and to build international solidarity in the movement to support migrants' rights.
The MRI E-Bulletin has 6 sections: Updates from Across the Globe, Civil Society Statements, Appeals to Action, Events, New Publications and Films, Other Announcements, and Opinions and Analysis.
The E-Bulletin is sent electronically to over 1100 people every month, including civil society groups, activists, researchers, academics, and government and UN officials.

JOB DESCRIPTION
We are looking for Regional Researchers who can conduct research to identify and prepare information on their assigned region to be included in the E-Bulletin. As a Regional Researchers, you will be responsible for the following tasks:
- Conducting electronic research on current events related to migrants' rights, to be included in the "Updates from Across the Globe" section of the MRI E-Bulletin
- Researching and compiling items for the Civil Society Statements, Events, New Publications and Films, Other Announcements, and Opinions and Analysis sections of the E-Bulletin;
- Analyzing information identified, and working with the E-Bulletin Editor to select pieces to be included in the next or upcoming issues of the E-Bulletin;
- Writing the entry to be included in the E-Bulletin, in English, Spanish or French;
- Communicating with the Editor of the MRI E-Bulletin to ensure adequate completion of required tasks.
There are generally three Regional Researchers, with responsibilities for the following sets of regions:
- Regional Researcher - Americas
- Regional Researcher - Europe and Africa
- Region Researcher - Asia, Middle East and Oceania
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
* Ability to communicate in English
* Basic computer skills and ability to use Microsoft Word, Acrobat, internet, and email.
* Research, analysis, and writing ability
Additionally:
For Regional Researcher - Americas:
- Ability to read English and Spanish,
- Ability to write fluently in either English or Spanish.
- Ability to read Portuguese also preferred.
Regional Researcher - Europe and Africa
- Ability to read French and English
- Ability to write fluently in either French or English.
- African languages, Arabic, and other European languages preferred.
Regional Researcher - Asia, Middle East and Oceania
- Ability to read and write in English.
- Ability to read Asian language(s), Arabic, and other languages of these regions preferred.
PREFERRED SKILLS
* Prior experience in research and writing, especially for periodicals, preferred
* Commitment to migrants' rights and social justice
* Knowledge of migrants’ rights, human rights, social movements, and the United Nations system
* Knowledge of Microsoft Outlook
* Ability to read and write in two or more of the E-Bulletin's languages (French, Spanish, English); and to translate between the two languages
* Ability to read other languages
LOCATION :
Remotely by internet and phone
COMPENSATION
No salary. These are voluntary positions.
MINIMUM COMMITMENT REQUIRED
Minimum three months.
Work hours are flexible; number of hours per month vary according to speed, but can range from 10-25 hours per month.
